New Year, New Window Styles and Detroit Design Trends

January 11, 2017

This time of year is the perfect time to update your home design and window treatments with the new styles of 2017. Whether it’s painting your living room, buying new window coverings or changing out accessories, we have the guide to what’s in vogue in 2017 for interior fashion and window treatment trends in Detroit.

Dusky Colors & Pastels

Both pastels and dusky colors are seeing more use while clear, vibrant colors are on the wane. Shades of gray, blue and green are extremely popular in addition to muted hues of pink, blue, and yellow. Many shades on the palette are evocative of nature from deep blue to Pantone’s color of the year, “Greenery.”. Neutral colors are still found in the color palette with whites, grays and darker browns balancing out the other colors.

Painting some of your walls in a neutral tone and then adding in pops of color through feature walls, accessories, and small furnishings may be one of the easiest ways to update the color in your home. Then it’s a breeze to have the latest colors in your interior design today and change the accessories out when color trends vary in the future. When considering new window treatments, choose those in neutral colors like Polywood® plantation shutters in white or a wood-like stain. These will easily complement any style or color palette and can stay in place when you switch room colors down the line.

Textures

Natural textures will remain popular this year. Fibers trending up include weaved material in rugs or baskets, natural or reclaimed wood, and twine. You’ll see these textures showing up in new places including on furniture, headboards, and art work. Add new life into an old belonging with a small touch like wrapping a frame in twine or making artwork from old wood.

Incorporating texture into your design through window treatments add another layer of interest to your décor. Reclaimed wood shutters are constructed from aged, knotted wood that was once part of fences or buildings. The wood has unique twists and knots that bring an all-natural quality to your home. Other window treatments that add texture are Ovation® wood shutters or shades made of natural woven material.

Metals

Furniture, hardware, and accessories that incorporate varying metals are popping up across Detroit. Wrought iron, brass, and nickel are especially popular in 2017. You can add metals to your décor by adding industrial, rustic, and retro pieces such as bar stools, benches, or light fixtures that are built from metals. Also, don’t be afraid to use nickel or pewter in your sinks or cabinetry for a more modern look.

Sliding barn doors and barn door shutters are a stunning way to incorporate metals and add an industrial or rustic style to your space. Barn doors are constructed from solid wood and are available in a wide array of hardware such as wheels, tracks, and pull handles made from different metals.
